Assassin's Creed Shadows bevat nieuwe stealth-mechanismen om het rondsluipen in de game nog tactischer te maken.

Ubisoft heeft de aanpassingen ten opzichte van vorige Assassin's Creed-delen in een nieuwe blogpost uiteengezet. Zo zijn er tijdens het sluipen acties in verschillende kleuren boven vijanden te zien, waarmee wordt aangegeven of vijanden in één keer uitgeschakeld kunnen worden, of er alleen schade wordt gedaan of dat vijanden helemaal niet via stealth uitgeschakeld kunnen worden.

Het loont dan ook de moeite om ervaringspunten in perks te stoppen waarmee bijvoorbeeld de schade die met sluipaanvallen wordt uitgedeeld te verhogen. Verder kan men de mogelijkheid ontgrendelen om dubbele sluipmoorden achter elkaar te plegen en bijvoorbeeld rookbommen te gebruiken.

Daarbij kan de positie waar spelers zich in bevinden ook het verschil maken: sommige vijanden kunnen bijvoorbeeld een aanval vanaf de grond overleven, maar niet vanuit de lucht. Er is ook een menuoptie om dit systeem toegankelijker te maken, waardoor alle vijanden wel met één stealthaanval gedood kunnen worden.

Een ander verschil met voorgaande games is dat spelers geen vogel tot hun beschikking hebben om het gebied om hen heen uit te kammen. In plaats daarvan hebben zowel Naoe en Yasuke - de twee hoofdpersonages van de game - een 'Observe'-mechanisme waarmee vijanden en items getagd kunnen worden. Alleen Naoe heeft ook Eagle Vision waarmee bijvoorbeeld vijanden achter muren gespot kunnen worden door het geluid dat ze maken.

Zoals gebruikelijk kunnen de hoofdpersonages bukken om minder snel gespot te worden, maar door in de schaduw te schuilen worden ze nu helemaal onzichtbaar. Het loont dus om bijvoorbeeld fakkels te doven en zo duisternis te creëren. Aangezien Naoe het kleinste hoofdpersonage in de reeks tot nu toe is, kan ze ook schuilen in krappe plekken.

Assassin's Creed Shadows had eigenlijk dit najaar moeten verschijnen, maar werd eerder dit jaar uitgesteld naar 14 februari 2025. Onlangs liet Ubisoft nog weten dat de nieuwe releasedatum haalbaar is. Overigens gaan er geruchten dat het bedrijf de komende vijf jaar elk halfjaar een nieuwe 'ervaring' binnen de reeks wil uitbrengen.

Sony biedt nu tot dertig procent korting op PlayStation Plus-abonnementen aan als onderdeel van Black Friday.

Hoewel Black Friday pas over een week plaatsvindt, zijn alle PlayStation-deals nu al beschikbaar. Gebruikers kunnen daarbij korting krijgen op jaarabonnementen PlayStation Plus. Zo kost PlayStation Plus Essential 57,59 euro (20 procent korting), PlayStation Plus Extra 94,49 euro (25 procent korting) en PlayStation Plus Premium 106,39 euro.

Deze week werd bekend dat PlayStation Portal-bezitters met PlayStation Plus Premium nu selecte games kunnen streamen via de cloud. Meer dan honderdtwintig PS5-games worden ondersteund in deze bèta van cloudstreaming, waaronder Monster Hunter Rise, Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Ghost of Tsushima en Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart. Games kunnen tot en met 1080p en 60 frames per seconde worden gestreamd, al is daar wel een internetconnectie van 13 Mbps voor nodig.
