Sega werkt aan een remaster van het vechtspel Virtual Fighter 5, dat ergens aankomende winter op Steam verschijnt.

Volgens het bedrijf wordt Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O., zoals de remaster heet, "de ultieme editie van de legendarische game". Het spel krijgt een 4K-resolutie en verbeterde textures. Ook wordt rollback netcode ondersteund voor mensen die game op competitief niveau willen spelen.

In 2021 kwam Virtua Fighter 5: Ultimate Showdown al uit in Japanse arcades en op PlayStation 4. Dat is een opnieuw ontwikkelde versie van de fighter die op de Dragon Engine van Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio draait. Die versie van de game is echter nooit op pc uitgekomen.

Eerder deze maand liet Sega al weten een nieuwe Virtua Fighter-game in ontwikkeling te hebben. Het is niet duidelijk of daarmee deze Steam-versie wordt bedoeld, of een geheel nieuw deel.

Bloober Team heeft een update voor de Silent Hill 2-remake uitgebracht die volgens hen de grafische problemen die met de PS5 Pro-update zijn meegekomen oplost.

Eerder bleek al dat dat PSSR, de ai-gedreven upscaletechnologie van de PS5 Pro, er voor zorgde dat de graphics van de game soms instabiel oogden en er zogeheten 'shimmering' zichtbaar was; een soort flikkering of ruis op in-game oppervlakten.

Ontwikkelaar Bloober Team liet eerder deze week al weten dit te onderzoeken, en inmiddels is patch 1.06 uitgebracht. Deze patch zou de "grafische glitches" in de game op PS5 Pro wegpoetsen. Daarnaast worden er diverse andere bugs in zowel de PS5- als de pc-versie aangepakt. Meer informatie is hier te vinden.

Ondanks de goede bedoelingen zijn de reacties van spelers op social media niet mals. Gamers claimen dat de update diverse problemen in de PS5 Pro-versie van de game niet oplost, en dat het spel daardoor nog altijd lelijker oogt dan op een reguliere PS5.

De Silent Hil 2-remake is zoals gezegd beschikbaar op PlayStation 5 en pc. Eerder bleek nog dat de game minstens jaar console-exclusief blijft voor PS5 - vanaf 8 oktober 2025 kan de game eventueel ook op andere consoles uitkomen.

Silent Hill 2 verscheen begin dit millennium op PlayStation 2, Xbox en pc. Het wordt door velen gezien als het beste deel in de survivalhorrorreeks. In het spel reist hoofdpersonage James Sunderland af naar het stadje Silent Hill nadat hij een brief van zijn overleden vrouw ontvangt. Daar komt hij in een bij tijden surrealistisch horrorscenario terecht. Buiten de setting heeft Silent Hill 2 qua verhaal geen connecties met het eerste deel, en zijn het spel en de aankomende remake van Bloober Team dus toegankelijk voor nieuwe spelers.

Tom Kerkhof gaf een 8,5 aan de game in de Gamer.nl-review: "Silent Hill 2 is een sfeervolle en vooral getrouwe remake, die het fantastische verhaal van de klassieker uit 2001 in een modern, toegankelijker jasje steekt."
