De geruchten over deze aankondiging zijn inmiddels al door verschillende site's versterkt door een eigen mening. PCZone denkt dat het zal gaan op Quake IV terwijl Gamespot zegt dat Doom III te zien zal zijn.

3DActionplanet heeft alle mogelijkheden op een rijtje gezet. Er wordt nagedacht over een nieuw deel in de Quake-serie, een nieuwe addon voor Quake 3, een GBA-port of mi chien het showen van Doom III.

Volgens de schrijver is de laatste optie de beste mogelijkheid. Doom III is namelijk nog nooit officeel aangekondigt en de demo op MacWorld ging over "our [ID's] next game". Why they're showing it: this probably makes the most sense of all, but id has been traditionally tight-lipped about when we'll ever get to see more DOOM. The only thing anyone has seen is the short game footage Carmack showed off at MacWorld--and he didn't even call it "DOOM" but only said "our next game". Still, everyone knows it's the DOOM sequel, and QuakeCon--where other developers even show off their stuff--would be a great place to display some of that footage for the crowd. Why they're not: id doesn't like flooding the game world with a lot of hype prior to a release, and it's certainly way too early for any DOOM hype. There's been no announcement on the game's expected release date, but most people are gue ing the end of next year. By picking up the veil this early, they're opening themselves up to a potential hype explosion, as hardcore gamers like the QuakeCon attendees are known for being particularly critical of a title when anything about it is exposed.9 augustus zullen we het weten.
