Microsoft is niet van plan een bestaande uitgever over te nemen, aldus Chief Xbox Officer Robert J. Bach in een interview met Reuters. Microsoft Game Studios zich gaan richten op (het overnemen van) kleinere ontwikkelaars. Het bedrijf is voorts van plan om veel nieuwe spellen uit te brengen die ondersteuning bieden voor de online gaming service Xbox Live.

De kerstperiode was voor Microsoft uiterst succesvol. Xbox heeft nu het op een na grootste aandeel in de consolemarkten in Noord-Amerika en Europa. In beide regio's steeg het marktaandeel gemiddeld vier procent. Japan blijft een lastige uithoek, gaf Bach toe: "De uitdaging in Japan is om Xbox zo veel mogelijk te differentiëren van de competitie."

Xbox Product Manager David Hufford vertelt in een interview met GameSpy Daily dat we dit jaar veel toernooien kunnen verwachten. Xbox Live zal daarnaast zal nog enkele, niet verder verklaarde veranderingen ondergaan. Microsoft lanceert Xbox Live in Nederland op 14 maart.GameSpy Daily: What are the plans for Xbox and Xbox Live in 2003? David: It's a big year for us. We have 200 games on the market right now, and we're certainly going to be at over 300 games by the end of this year's holiday season. Some of the big games this year include first-party titles such as Brute Force, Midtown Madne 3 and Tao Feng: Fist of the Lotus. From third-party developers we'll have Enter the Matrix, Dead or Alive Xtreme Beach Volleyball, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic and Return to Castle Wolfenstein -- which will be an Xbox Live title.

The Xbox Live service itself will receive enhanced service features. We're going to be expanding the community-based services as we move through the year.

Everybody wants tournaments, so we're going to be doing a lot on the tournament side of gaming. But the only thing I can say at the moment about the other new features is that Xbox Live will become much more personal for people and it'll be better integrated with other new features that we build in.
