Niet enkel in Nederland hebben sommige mensen het een beetje moeilijk met Pokemon. Ook in Saudi Arabie lopen er de flink wat Pikachu-haters rond die tot de conclusie zijn gekomen dat Pokemon niets meer te zoeken heeft in het hun land.

Zo heeft één van de hoogte religieuze machten in Saudi Arabie bepaald dat Pokemon op de verboden lijst moet komen vanwege morele overwegingen.Saudi Arabia's Higher Committee for Scientific Research and Islamic Law – highest religious authority in the country – has banned all Pokemon related material. Pikachu and co are "morally objectionable" and "a bad influence" on children, it has alleged.

The cards are said to feature religious symbols such as the Star of David, crucifixes, and triangles significant to freemasons and followers of Shintoism. The fact that aspects of the game are a whisker away from gambling compounded the anger of the Higher Committee. Gambling is strictly prohibited under Islamic law. Binnenkort mogen we dus naast de illegale handel in wapens ook de nodige Pokemon-waren verwachten. Ik vraag me af welke straffen erop staan bij het binnensmokkelen van een illegale Pikachu.
