Op dit moment is er eigenlijk nog weinig leuks van de pc-gamewereld op de TV te zien. Er zijn wel een paar wazige programma's waarin spellen worden gepromoot, maar dit zijn niet meer veredelde reclamefilmpjes.

De Britten willen dit echt helemaal anders gaan doen. Met de nieuwe TV show Mercenaries moeten PC Games eindelijk serieus op de TV worden gebracht.

Twee teams van maximaal 6 mensen gaan de strijd tegen elkaar in verschillende hard-core wargames (Operation Flashpoint, Counter-Strike, Steel Beasts en Falcon 4). Het 6e teamlid (een hacker) kan zijn team nog extra voordeel geven door speciaal hiervoor ingerichte servers te hacken.

De Gameindrustrie is in ieder geval al heel enthousiast. Codemasters en Rage zijn al druk bezig speciale levels voor de TV-show aan het maken.

While all six members of each team will take part in one or more of the matches during the course of a show, the sixth member is actually a little different from the others. He plays the role of a hacker, with "personally designed hacker challenges that use real world underground software".

How is this part of the show going to work? Well, Jason is keeping a tight lid on things at this early stage in production, but describes it as "pretty ground breaking stuff". What we do know is that hackers will be given servers to hack and other tasks to accomplish, and that succe can give their team an advantage in weaponry or information for the next in-game challenge. The games themselves are more loosely linked though, and as Jason explained "it's a difficult path to tread".
