Het is eigenlijk geen nieuws, want iedereen weet dat er elk jaar een nieuw deel wordt toegevoegd aan de FIFA-reeks van EA Sports. Bij de ontwikkeling van FIFA Football 2004 krijgen de heren van EA dit keer hulp van Erich Rutemöller, een lid van het technisch comité van de FIFA bond. Rutemöller helpt voetbalclubs met het bedenken van betere tactieken en formaties, en dit zal hopelijk dus ook in FIFA 2004 te zien zijn. Rutemöller is currently part of the FIFA technical committee and travels the world teaching the leading coaches the fundamentals of football (tactics, formations). He puts teams through their paces before they obtain their official FIFA coaching badge. In addition, he is also a member of the coaching staff of the German National Team and has previously managed a series of Bundesliga clubs.

"I'm excited to be given the chance to partner with EA SPORTS and share my extensive football knowledge with them to help create a truly authentic experience," said Rutemöller. Nieuw is de Career Mode, waarbij je met een kleine club moet uitgroeien tot de top. Ook zullen de graphics en de gameplay zoals gewoonlijk weer opgepoetst worden. FIFA 2004 zal eind dit jaar in de winkels liggen.
