Zoals gebruikelijk bij de release van een nieuwe Counter-Strike versie zijn er ook bij CS 1.5 weer de nodige bugs in de het spel gevonden. Dit keer gaat het over een op het CS-forum gemelde time-out bug.

Omdat het spel bij het laden niet genoeg tijd geeft aan het ophalen van een DNS-adres zouden veel spelers last hebben van een vroegtijdige error met het bericht "Server verification failed".

Uiteindelijk zou dit (volgens een behulpzame forumbezoeker) te verhelpen zijn door het bestand 'woncomm.lst' te editen en de daar vermelde namen te pingen (command -> tracert.exe domeinnaam.com). Hierna zouden de DNS-namen vervangen kunnen worden door het rechtstreekse IP.lmfao... no one is going to believe how easy this was to "fix"... ok, well, I was bored at about 5:30 AM (yeah, about a half hour ago), so I started playing with this... logged the packets in my firewall and watched what HL was doing... turns out that me age is also the me age used when packets for a secure server authentication time out... What it was for me was the connection wasn't being completed before the game gave up... This is the same problem some people experience with the WON servers... The fix? Bring up an old simple command window (you'll need this in a second) and go to your Half-LifeValve directory and open (with notepad) woncomm.lst... In there will be 15 names (DNS names, not IPs) of servers... Using your trusty command window, tracert these servers (there's only 6 hosts total, it won't take long) and replace the DNS names in that file with the IPs you resolve (I'm not posting the IPs in case they change)... That fixed it for me, and I'm sure it will fix the problem for the majority of you :) (btw, to be safe, I overwrote the woncomm.lst file in my cstrike directory with that newly modified one, you can choose whether or not you want to do that)...
