GamePC heeft een Round-up geschreven van een aantal optische muizen. Het voordeel van een optische muis is natuurlijk dat er geen balletje in zit, er geen gladde oppervlakte voor nodig is om te gebruiken en dat het veel nauwkeuriger is. Dit laatste zou je vooral tijdens het gamen moeten merken. De muizen die onder de loep genomen worden:

- Mitsumi Laptop mouse

- Logitech optical wheel mouse

- MS Intellimouse Explorer

- MS Intellimouse optical

De winnaar is de MS optical mouse, maar de anderen zijn ook zeer goed. Vooral de Logitech scoorde hoog, omdat de prijs beduidend lager ligt als die van de MS.Since we are GamePC, I gue you'd like to know how everything "feels." I noticed in my testing (playing?) the most important characteristic was the ability to keep contact with the surface. Unlike balled mice where you can have the ball continue to spin after you lift up the mouse, the optic sensors stop right away when lifted small distance off the surface. Another characteristic of optical mice is there is some recalibration that takes place as you set it back down (in a first person shooter, you would see a bit of jitter). If you keep the mouse on the desk at all times, this isn't a problem. However, if you're like me and you lift your mouse a lot to reposition it when playing, optical mice can be slightly annoying in the middle of a closely contested round of Counterstrike.
