Wolfenstein 3-D is jarig | Gamer.nl

Na eerdere trailers deze week is er een derde trailer van No Man's Sky uitgebracht.

Hoera hoera, vandaag is het een historische dag. Precies 9 jaar geleden is het FPS genre ontwikkeld met het spel Wolfenstein 3-D. Een belangrijke dag dus voor de gamewereld zoals wij die nu kennen. "You stand over the guard's body grabbing frantically for his gun... Deep in the belly of a Nazi dungeon, you've only a knife, a gun, and your wits to aid your escape."

With those words the FPS genre was invented on May 5th, 1992 with the release of Wolfenstein 3-D.

Wolfenstein 3-D was based on the 1982 Apple game "Castle Wolfenstein" by Silas Warner. In the 9 years since its release it has been ported to the Super NES, Mac, Atari Jaguar, 3DO, Atari Lynx, and more! The engine was used in Super 3D Noah's Ark, Spear of Destiny, Corridor 7, Operation Body Count, Rise of the Triad (heavily modified), Blake Stone: Aliens of Gold, Blake Stone: Planet Strike, and Shadow Caster (heavily modified). The source code was released Oct 14th, 1996 which prompted countle other ports and modifications.

I could go on for pages but I think the history of the game speaks for itself. Wolfenstein 3-D launched the FPS genre, helped give birth to a new online community, and spawned hundreds of BBSs, newsgroups, game servers, and web sites where gaming fans could congregate. Anyone who reads Blue's News owes a part of the games they enjoy today to a humble little 3D game released 9 years ago today.Ahh..de herinneringen..i love this game
