Bij 3d Rage hebben ze een stuk inelkaar gedraaid over Win98 en Win2000. Er staat een stuk in over win2000 en games met DirectX 7 enzo...Recent months have seen numerous articles with titles such as "Windows 2000: a Gamer's Perspective". These articles all came to the same conclusion: Win2K (NT) is a more stable operating system, but Win98 has better drivers, so keep 98 around for playing games until Win2K drivers mature. Win2K provides several new features that have been available in 98 that make it a more viable gaming platform than NT 4, including Plug n Pray, DirectX 7, and somewhat flaky USB support. What I want to look at in this article is not the differences between NT 4 and Win2K, but the under-the-hood similarities that differentiate them from Windows 9x. This is not intended to be a comprehensive guide to the differences, but an overview of the major aspects that affect a typical home user: multitasking, protection modes, the NT Hardware Abstraction Layer (HAL), and memory addre spaces.
