Five Questions on Neverwinter Nights

Daily Radar: Who are you? What do you do on the team? Trent Oster: I'm Trent Oster, producer of NWN. My job is to take NWN from the original one-line game concept, and create a great and entertaining game. I wear every hat required to make the game as good as possible, and get it done as soon as possible. DR: What are you working on right now? TO: Right now I'm working with the animators on improving the look of the combat in the game engine. With NWN, we really want to push the look of RPG combat, and our current first-run implementation is showing the potential of the system. So, we're very excited to polish the system up and get it looking great. DR: What feature of the game has you most excited? TO: Every feature. I'm most looking forward to playing a fighter character and having all the combat moves available to me. The idea of parrying, disarming and knocking down enemies really appeals to me. I'm also pretty jazzed about the editor suite. The NWN tool set looks very strong right now, and it is going to be a great tool for the end user to create adventures with. DR: Are you solid for hitting 2001? TO: We are planning a 2001 release. As with any project the size of NWN, it requires a ton of work, but we have a very talented and dedicated team, so things look quite good. DR: Why is your game going to rule the school in 2001? TO: I think there are a number of great titles coming, but I feel the strong points of NWN are many. We are the first D&D RPG construction kit. We are the first D&D RPG to offer user-run servers with user-defined death rules. We are also the first RPG to push the look of melee combat to the next level. We also have around 200 different monsters, 200 different spells and a great storyline. In short, NWN is the game I've always wanted to play, and it is going to be great.
