Na de koude douche die veel spelers kregen na het spelen van het veel gehypte, maar veel te pa ieve 'Metal Gear Solid 2', komt Konami met het nieuwtje dat er een speciale DVD in de maak is die ons meer inzicht geeft in de creatie van deze game.
Op de zogenaamde 'Document of MGS2' is een hele zwik info te vinden, varieerend van artwork en achtergrond verhalen tot een uitgebreide optie om zelf de realtime cutscenes te regiseren en aan te pa en. Een dergelijke feature was in erg afgeslankte versie ook te vinden op de MGS2 game-cd zelf, maar lijkt nu een aantal flinke stappen verder te zijn gekomen.
Naast deze behind-the-scenes is er ook een serie nieuwe mi ies te vinden op deze DVD, gebaseerd op de extra bonus-opdrachten van de komende Xbox versie: Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance.Characters: 2D concept artwork and realtime 3D models of all the characters in the game, including both "names" and facele minions.
Mechanics: An archive similar to the Characters section, devoted to mechanical creations like the Cyphers and Metal Gear Ray.
Background: Concepts and 3D models of all the settings in the game, from the Discovery through Arsenal Gear.
Polygon Demos: Play through every realtime cutscene with complete control over the timeline and the camera position, and view the storyboards used to design them.
Program: Background detail from the game's programmers.
Sound: An archive of music tracks and sound effects, plus a test mode where players can mix them together.
Game Plan: Hideo Kojima's original project proposal for the game. Unfortunately, it's only in the original Japanese.
Script: The complete "shooting script," as it were, with all the dialogue, narration, and direction comments.
Staff: The table of organization and complete staff credits.
Chronicle: A timeline of game development and milestones over the three-year development cycle.
Special Footage: Behind-the-scenes documentary footage on the making and marketing of the game.
Items: A gallery of all the special promotional items and spinoff widgets spawned by the game -- artwork, books, shirts, action figures, and perhaps even this MGS2 paperweight the author has on his desk. Wanneer en of deze versie ook Europa zal bereiken is nog niet bekend, maar aangezien er een Amerikaanse versie van de DVD is aangekondigd, lijkt dat nog niet zo onmogelijk.
De DVD is (dankzij de extra mi ies) enkel met een Playstation 2 te bekijken en spelen.
