The console will come with some enhancements including an expansion bay for a proprietary 3.5in hard drive, and an expansion unit for a network interface. The DVD drives will be incorporated into the unit when it launches in the US.

Kaz Hirai, president at Sony, said the company expects to sell one million units when it launches and a total of three million by the end of the fiscal year.

Sony is determined to be in the driving seat of the broadband revolution, and has confirmed that the Playstation II will not include a modem.
