Terwijl LucasArts al een behoorlijke tijd gestopt is met het ontwikkelen van 2D adventure games, blijven er fans die met man en macht aan freeware point and click spellen werken. Veel van deze games zijn geïnspireerd op de titels die LucasArts ontwikkeld heeft en sommige zijn zelfs indirecte vervolgen.

Eén van deze indirecte vervolgen is The New Adventures of Zak McKracken. Het spel is een vervolg op de in 1988 verschenen game genaamd 'Zak McKracken and the Alien Mindbenders'.
