PlayOnline is het gaming netwerk voor Final Fantasy XI. Square heeft nu bekend gemaakt dat de start van PlayOnline uitgesteld is tot de lente van 2002. De start stond oorspronkelijk voor de lente van 2001 gepland.

Overigens zal Final Fantasy XI online only zijn. De eerste testen beginnen in de winter van 2001 op het PlayOnline netwerk, zodat alles eens goed bekeken kan worden.
