Next Gen Magazine, een tijdschrift dat elke maand alle ins- en outs van alle next-gen consoles bespreekt, had een interview met Peter Main, president van Nintendo of America (NOA).

Hij verteld daarin een aantal dingen over de Gamecube, waaronder de in-house geproduceerde games en de 3rd party games.

Vooral met dat laatste punt wekte hij verbazing. Het is namelijk zo dat Microsoft veel bedrijven betaald om games te maken, soms zelfs 100% van de ontwikkelingskosten. Microsoft zegt er echter niet bij dat de games exclusief voor de Xbox gemaakt moeten worden, dus veel bedrijven die dus gratis een game aan het ontwikkelen zijn kunnen voor vrij weinig geld de games poorten, zodat Microsoft indirect meewerkt aan het succes van andere consoles. Volgens Peter Main zijn er op die manier al verschillende bedrijven bezig met games voor de Gamecube.NextGen: How do you deal with Microsoft and Sony wooing these same game companies? Peter Main: Third-party publishers know our price list, and it's very similar to anything that's out there. We know that's consistent. What may be in question is marketing money. On the one hand, there was someone [Microsoft] who had no stake in the busine and at any cost had to get in. They went to a variety of developers and agreed to pay, in e ence, 100% of development costs with no strings attached, which had a lot of developers [coming] here and saying they have free goods that they can port to our system. NextGen: Sounds like a good deal for you. Peter Main: And [Microsoft] paid for the whole deal... We've been in the busine for a few years, and we didn't do any deals like that. For better or worse, a $10 royalty plus the cost of their goods is about the same deal that all three companies are running on.
