Gisteren kon je hier op Gamers.nl lezen dat de GameBoy Advance al dik een half miljoen keer(500.000 keer voor leken ) over de Amerikaanse toonbank is gegaan.

Nintendo claimt daarmee dat ze de snelst verkopende console aller tijden op de markt hebben gezet.

IGN naam daarover contact op met Sony, en die melden doodleuk dat hun paradepaardje de PlayStation2 bij de launch net iets vaker is verkocht."We sold 510,000 units in the first two days the system was in the market. That's based on our [Sony's] initial numbers," said Smith. According to Nintendo representatives, the company based its numbers on the most recent NPD and TRSTS sales data for the month of October, which stated that the PlayStation sold through only 309,000 units that month. Smith commented: "TRSTS represents 75 to 80% of [the US] market...not the entire market."

As for the "Fastest Selling System" claim? Molly Smith offers this: "At this point, the PS2 is the fastest selling system ever...and there is no system yet that could beat that, especially on a worldwide basis."

Als het waar is, heeft Nintendo geen gelijk, maar Nintendo had het over ruim 500.000 verkochte units, en ze hebben geen exact aantal verkochte consoles vermeld. Niet dat Nintendo zich zorgen hoeft te maken, het bedrijf verwacht dat er in Maart 2002 al 23 miljoen GBA'tjes verkocht zijn.
