Op de dag van de Gamecube launch heeft Microsoft een aantal grote game sites (IGN, Gamespot) een hands-on demo gegeven van de Xbox. Er staan op XBox.IGn nu hand-ons van Munch's Oddy ee, Halo, Blood Wake en Fuzion Frenzy.

Het is een lange tijd stil geweest rond Munch's Oddy ee en sommige mensen hadden dan ook de hoop in de titel al opgegeven. Gelukkig onterecht volgens IGn, het spel ziet er prachtig uit en speelt even goed als in de vorige delen.

Fortunately, a few precious minutes of the game has made me much more confident that everything is hunky dory in Abe's planet of genocide and ma destruction.

I had a chance to check out a few of the levels of the game, but mainly I had my hands on some of the puzzles, which felt more than ever like a 3D translation of the old Abe you knew and loved. Some precision is involved, some quick moves, but mainly it's up to you to figure out how to use Munch's Fuzzles and his ability to control machinery along with Abe's control over the Mudokons and other entities in the world

De volgende titel die ze hebben gespeeld is Bloodwake. Het Sega spel, wat nog maar voor 60% compleet is, laat spelers met gewapende voertuigen tegen elkaar strijden. Vooral de watereffecten schijnen enorm overtuigend te zijn.

Over a dozen watercraft are available with various power-ups to pick up in each of the huge levels. During our short se ion with the game, we had a chance to take on each other via four-player split screen and even then, the water physics are incredible. Explosions create huge waves that accurately affect the speed and motion of your boat and I can tell that there's going to be a lot of depth created just from how chaotic the seas are.

Microsoft had ook Fuzion Frenzy meegenomen naar de gamesites. In dit spel bestuur je een character waarmee je allemaal puzzelspellen kan gaan doen. Vooral geschikt voor multiplayer en een "must have" volgens IGn

Fuzion Frenzy is quickly becoming one of the must have games for this system, particularly if you like old-school games, or the concept of party games but not the execution. If you've got friends, this will be a must-have addition to your collection. You do have friends, don't you?

En natuurlijk was er Halo. Het spel wordt nu langzamerhand slachtoffer van zijn eigen hype nu steeds meer mensen het spel er minder aantrekkelijk uit vinden zien. Maar is dit wel terecht ? IGn was vreselijk onder de indruk van de grafische kwaliteiten van het spel en nog belangrijker, de gameplay. Het spel is perfect aangepast voor de XBox controler en volgens IGn speelt het spel dan ook heerlijk.

The graphics. Wow. Halo is fricken' beautiful now. All of the bump and reflection mapping has been upped considerably, which gives the game an incredibly polished look. In this first level, everything was optimized so the framerate was rock solid at 30fps with no drops at all. We did see a snow level that takes place much later in the game with tons of chaos going on that did drop a bit, but it still had to be optimized before release.
