Nu het spel in de Nederlandse winkels ligt kan elke wannabe gangster zich uitleven in de City of lost Heaven. Maar wat als je niet weet of het een verstandige aankoop zal zijn? Dan zijn er altijd reviews te vinden die de twijfelende gamer moeten helpen. De meeste recensies van Mafia zijn zeer lovend, maar het is niet alleen rozengeur en manenschijn. Eurogamer speelde het spel en vond het zo slecht dat de jongens van Illusion Softworks met een 4 naar huis konden. Het idee is goed, maar de uitvoering laat teveel te wensen over, aldus de Engelse gamesite.The real problem though is the city itself, which looks beautiful but suffers from appalling scenery pop-up. While this isn't noticeable a lot of the time, whenever you drive down a long straight street or go acro a bridge you'll see entire blocks of the city appearing out of thin air right in front of you, which is distracting to say the least. Forget About ItMafia was a great idea and the storyline is brilliant, but we're here to play the game, not admire its narrative structure. At times it can be a lot of fun, but there are so many dumb little design flaws and annoying niggles that you'll need a lot more patience than I have to perservere with it. If you can overlook the AI and graphical flaws and don't mind repeating a few exce ively difficult mi ions over and over again until you get them perfect, then you might find some enjoyment here. Toch is niet iedereen het eens met Eurogamer. Zo gaf GameSpot een 9,3, Kreeg het spel een 9,8 van Game Basement en was GamerWeb zo vriendelijk om een 9,1 te geven, All Out Games beloonde het spel met een 8,6, terwijl CG Romania een negen uitdeelde. Al met al zijn de meeste reacties positief. Voor alle twijfelaars zal binnenkort onze eigen gangster Erwin met zijn review komen over deze misdadige titel.
