Je komt laptops de laatste tijd steeds vaker tegen op LAN party's, maar vooral het gebrek aan goede videokaarten weerhoud gamers ervan om ma aal voor de laptop te gaan. Tenslotte zijn het frames die je game leven geven. De meeste "game" laptops hebben een Nvidia GeForce2GO kaart. Met deze kaart kan aardig gegamed worden, maar moet het afleggen tegen zijn desktop broers. ATI komt nu met de oplo ing in de vorm van de Mobility Radeon 7500 GPU. Een mond vol, maar het beestje mag zeker genoemd worden. Spellen als Serious Sam 2, Wolfenstein en Quake 3 liepen allemaal vloeiend in 1024x768 in samenwerking met een P4 laptop. Volgens HardOCP zijn laptops de toekomst voor LAN party's.From what we have been shown first hand recently by ATi, the days of competitive laptop gaming are extremely close if not already here for a few lucky folks. As of writing this I could find several online retailers selling ATi Mobility Radeon 7500-equipped Pentium 4 notebooks at 1.6 or 1.7GHz. We are going to see this quickly ramp to 2GHz + speeds and way beyond. At the moment, I would have to say that the cost of US$2000 notebook would be a bit much for an exclusive gaming “box”. As we know, nothing in the PC hardware industry starts off cheap but almost always gets there as it becomes the norm instead of the exception.

If all this does not impre you one bit, keep in mind that in as little as 12 months from now you will see laptops with ATi Radeon 8500 and NVIDIA GeForce3 technology on retailers' shelves. Helaas zijn er geen benchmarks te vinden in het artikel, maar de begeleidende tekst maakt een hoop goed. Een laptop is ideaal voor LAN party's en zodra de kosten naar beneden gaan lijkt het dan ook DE oplo ing voor elke LANbezoekende gamer.
