Het gaat goed met de Dreamcast.
En Sega heeft dat vooral te danken aan de PS2 tekorten van Sony.
Vooral in Amerika gaat het goed met Sega, maar ook in ons kikkerlandje gaat het goed.
Als je een Dreamcast wilt kopen moet je meestal geluk hebben, want ze zijn steeds uitverkocht.
De stijging van de verkoop heeft natuurlijk ook met de prijsverlaging te maken.Sega Dreamcast's average weekly unit sales volume increased nearly 157 percent between the 23rd of July and September 30th. Moving the Sega juggernaut into second place behind the PlayStation in hardware sales, and putting it in front of the last non-portable cartridge-based system, the Nintendo 64. The large increase in sales is widely accepted to be a direct result of Sega Dreamcast's recently announced $50 price cut and the introduction of a $150 ISP rebate.
"Sega has made a bold yet nece ary move in staking its claim on the gaming market in preparation for the upcoming launch of PlayStation 2," said Matt Gravett, game analyst for PC Data. "PS2 will be huge, but if initial results are any indication, Sega has positioned itself perfectly if speculation of PS2 shortages are realized."
It has been five weeks since the price reduction has gone into effect, and in that time Sega's share of the market has increased to almost 30 percent of all unit sales nearly 40 percent of revenue (Sony's share saw an increase as well, and rests at a strong 49 percent in unit sales and 42 percent in revenue). The underdog Nintendo 64 saw its share decline to almost 21 percent in unit sales and nearly 18 percent for revenue.
Maar ook de topgames die de laaste maanden uitkomen helpen Sega enorm.
Denk maar eens aan Virtua Tennis, Space Channel 5 en Dead or Alive 2. Maar ook de games die de komende maanden uitkomen zijn veelbelovend.
Wie kan er bijvoorbeeld nog wachten op Metropolis Street Racer? Ik niet. En niet te vergeten Ferrari 355 Challenge, Jet Set Radio, Shenmue en Sega GT.
Sega gaat zo te zien weer erg goede tijden tegemoet.
En dat werd tijd.
