GameCube Interview | Gamer.nl

No Man's Sky uitgebracht.

Come on, there is no question that there is going to be awesome stuff in a year. But everybody says it's a bitch to write for, you need to know microcode, and high-quality textures are difficult to pump out.

Perrin: It's not that much of a jump over PlayStation 1. Don't you think it's because they rushed? They rushed.

Jim [pulls out his Palm Pilot and begins to read]: Somebody said: "The PS2 is an absolute disaster of powerful technology rolled up into an enigma of vector units that seems to have baffled most software development houses into a state of complete submi ion."

[...]IGNcube: What do you think are Sony's and Sega's biggest mistakes right now?

Perrin: We probably have different opinions on this. I personally think that Sega me ed it up when they got so high with Genesis -- they started bringing out all of these different upgrades and lost their focus. They started toppling over themselves and by the time they came back out with Dreamcast, which has some great games, they had already marred too many different things.

I think Sony, on the other hand, pushed to bring PS2 out too fast and I think the quality of the games (albeit there are a couple of great titles), suffered.

And Nintendo, as much as we frustrate people and change dates, in the end people are generally very happy. I mean, I know Super Mario 64 blew us away.

Jim: What Perrin says about PlayStation 2 being rushed, I think that some of their design objectives are different than ours. As Peter Main [executive vice president of sales and marketing, NOA] talked about at the Games Summit, Sony really is aiming at this home appliance market and having other functions, and Nintendo remains very focused on gaming. So some of the things that have hindered PlayStation 2 as a game console, maybe they will bear fruit in other applications. That remains to be seen.

Perrin: It's kind of like: Sega -- dying, unfortunately for them. Nintendo -- pure gaming. Sony and Microsoft -- head-to-head for that place in the home.
