Goed nieuws voor alle Civilization fans, want Jeff Briggs van Firaxis heeft laten weten dat Civilization 4 in ontwikkeling is. De ontwikkelaar is op het moment met de ontwikkeling van drie nieuwe games bezig en zal binnenkort aan een vierde titel beginnen. Naast Civilization 4 wilde Briggs alleen laten weten dat men ook aan Pirates! werkt, maar dat was al langer bekend. Wat we precies van de nieuwe Civilization kunnen verwachten wilde de president en CEO van Firaxis Games niet zeggen. Wel is het mogelijk dat we nog meer remakes van oude games zullen zien, want de ontwikkelaar heeft namelijk de rechten gekregen van kla iekers als Sid Meier's Pirates!, Sid Meier's Colonization, Covert Action, Gunship, Silent Service: The Submarine Simulation, F19 Stealth Fighter, F15 Strike Eagle en Sid Meier's CPU Bach Briggs also touched on the electronic distribution of games, "Eventually the Internet as a source for acquiring games will be the main way people get their games. I still think that's quite a ways off, but a lot of people have approached us to make something happen. The financials and all that don't seem to make sense right now. I don't think consumers think that way right now…they still think in terms of going to a store. A lot of people don't trust that, when they enter their credit card into a computer, that they are actually going to get something. The big payoff is when there are no manufacturing costs, but that is over shadowed by the infrastructure costs.
