Once the levels are done, the next step is to populate them with items, opponents and events. In order to keep gameplay fresh, we introduce new opponents and items gradually as a reward to the player for his skilful progre ion through the game. By slowly introducing new elements, the gameplay remains interesting throughout. The same applies for weapons. New weapons are awarded to the player as he progre es through the game. While this sounds like common sense, it is really difficult to resist the temptation to hand over the entire arsenal to the player in the first two levels. After all the hard work put into creating the weapons, animations and special effects, the natural urge is to put them in the player's hands as soon as po ible. There is no faster route to a boring game than to show all of your bells and whistles early on.
