Met de wereldwijde première van 'Fellowship of the Ring' voor de deur heeft Electronic Arts een goed tijdstip uitgekozen om hun games gebaseerd op de films aan te kondigen. Het was al langer bekend dat EA de rechten had, maar het is nu officieel. We kunnen ook lezen dat de eerste game volgend jaar herfst het licht zal zien, ongeveer tegelijk met de release van de tweede film, genaamd 'The Two Towers'. Hieronder een stuk uit de pre release.REDWOOD CITY, Calif., December 18, 2001 – Electronic Arts (NASDAQ: ERTS) officially announced today that they have signed an exclusive deal with New Line Cinema to create games based on the upcoming The Lord of the Rings movies. New Line Cinema will release three movies based on J.R.R. Tolkien's cla ic literary works, beginning with The Fellowship of the Ring (December 19, 2001), followed by The Two Towers (Holiday 2002) and The Return of the King (Holiday 2003). The license grants EA the exclusive rights to develop and publish products based on the movies for next generation video game consoles and handheld platforms.

EA will launch the first of their games in Fall 2002, in conjunction with the second motion picture, The Two Towers. Information on the subsequent games will be announced at a later date.Er zullen in totaal twee 'Lord of the Rings' gameseries uitkomen. Namelijk die van EA gebaseerd op de films en die van Sierra, gebaseerd op de boeken. Maar voordat we ook maar een van deze games kunnen spelen, is er morgen natuurlijk de release van de film.
