3DRealms heeft zich de afgelopen weken niet populair gemaakt bij de fans van Duke Nukem. Dit vanwege intere ante copyright zaak.

Een paar zeer enthousiaste fans hadden het idee opgevat om de kla ieker Duke Nukem 3D na te maken met behulp van de Quake 3 engine. 3D Realms stuurde al gauw een email met de mededeling dat alles van Duke Nukem 3D nog steeds onder copyright valt. Feit is echter dat in Duke Nukem 3D veel gejatte quotes uit Army of Darkne en de Evil Dead films zitten, zonder dat daar ooit over copyright is gesproken.

3Dactionplanet heeft de hele zaak uitgezocht en kwam tot deze conclusie :

So is this the pot calling the kettle black? Foxing the "Duke it Out in Quake!" mod seems a bit hypocritical. Brou ard tells us that it's wrong for people to steal their levels after their years of work, yet when confronted with their use of catch phrases from movies, they justify it as homage to the movie.

"Duke It Out In Quake!" was homage to Duke Nukem. 3D Realms had the chance to bring back some of that old feeling with this mod and to spark new interest in Duke Nukem Forever. Perhaps they could have even followed in the footsteps of Valve Software and a few other developers and helped the mod out by giving it support.

But instead they angered fans by Foxing a mod that many were excited about. Will we see the same bitter 3D Realms when Duke Nukem Forever is released? Een verhaal wat nog veel discu ies met zich mee zal brengen.
