I'm sure most people in their 20's or 30's have SOME memory of that fine system, that wondrous achievement, that pillar of an acme of an apex that defined an industry! The point may seem moot now, but, you must realize, had it not been for Atari, there would probably be no Nintendo, no Sony, no Perfect Dark, no Bond, no Nintendo, or Perfect Dark! (yes, I'm biased). Atari proved that a home videogame system could be successful. Believe it or not, Ripley, but the Atari 2600 wasn't the first home game system. Their were others before, such as the Magnavox machines that had built-in games. Even Atari itself released several home systems before the Atari 2600 came out in 1977. But those were all Pong-type games that didn't use cartridges. It was the Atari 2600 with its interchangeable cartridges that became a smash hit and paved the way for Atari to bring fine videogame entertainment into every home in America! I believe Jimmy Carter said it best - "A chicken in every pot, an Atari hooked up to every TV." And maybe he didn't that say... but he should have!
