Capture the Flag is een bekend multiplayer onderdeel dat je vooral bij een first person shooter zou verwachten. Nu ligt de intere e van Sid Meier niet in dit genre, maar CTF is een van de nieuwe modes die je tegenkomt in de Civilization III uitbreiding: Play the World. Naast vlaggetjes pakken kan je ook elimination en regicide (koningsmoord) spelen. Civ3 multiplayer heeft namelijk een aantal opties zoals "turnle " en tegelijkertijd om tegen elkaar te spelen. Dit maakt het mogelijk om snel potjes Civ online te spelen. Voor de wat traditionelere mensen is er ook nog de turn-based optie aanwezig.Play the World will also include eight new Great Leaders; eight new civilizations with specialized units for each, new map features including airfields, outposts and radar towers, two new terrain sets that allow players to customize their maps; additional interface enhancements like unit stacking and auto-bombard, and complete game editor and scenario support, including feudal Japan and World War II unit packs, that will allow players to create scenarios from any time period. Wanneer de uitbreiding precies zal uitkomen is nog niet bekend, maar hij zal zeker goed gevuld zijn. Vooral de turnle mode zal de fans prettig verra en als we Sid mogen geloven. Deze mode heeft wat weg van de turn-based actie zoals in Fallout Tactics.
