Eind vorig jaar verscheen True Crime, een aardige, doch mislukte poging van Activision om GTA van de troon te stoten. In True Crime speel je in tegenstelling tot GTA geen crimineel maar een politieagent, en heeft de manier waarop je de diverse vormen van criminaliteit oplost in Los Angeles invloed op je good cop/bad cop gehalte. Audiografisch zat het verzorgd in elkaar maar de gameplay liet hier en daar te wensen over. Toch weerhoudt dit Activision er niet van de game naar de PC te brengen, met als verra ende toevoeging online multiplayer. Tot 4 personen kunnen online de strijd aangaan in allerlei race- en vechtlevels. True Crime™: Streets of L.A.™ for the PC will feature online multiplayer gameplay. Using either Gamespy or a Local Area Network (LAN), up to four players can join up and play any of five different multiplayer games. Drawing from the characters in the single player portion of True Crime, gameplay will vary from the “Fast and Furious” style of “Street Racing” mode, to patrolling the city and bagging the most criminals in “The Beat.” Other multiplayer games include hand-to-hand combat in “Dojo Master,” slaughtering opponents with new weapons such as a rocket launcher or cro bow in “Battle Master,” and Los Angeles wouldn't be complete without a high speed car chase. In “The Chase,” gamers can play either the police or criminal in a desperate race acro the City of Angels.
