In 2000 kwam Icewind Dale uit, een spel van Black Isle Studios dat je bezig zou moeten houden tot de langverwachte Baldur's Gate 2 op de schappen lag. Probleem was echter dat op dezelfde dag Diablo2 uitkwam en binnen zeer afzienbare tijd Baldur's Gate 2, waardoor Icewind Dale een stuk slechter verkocht dan wat het spel qua potentie in zich had. Nu staat het tweede deel op ons te wachten en Black Isle weet te melden dat het bijna klaar is en er alleen nog wat balancing gedaan moet worden. Hello again! First off, I'm happy to say that the game is finished! Yes, you heard me right - it's done! What I mean by finished is that you can play the game from beginning to end and solve it. There is still some work to be done in the form of balance and polish, but we are working on that.

Currently, we are checking the game balance. All of the designers are playing through the game on the different difficulty settings and making copious notes on the good, the bad and the ugly. Changes are then implemented and we play through it again and again and... Anyway, you get the picture. We want the game to be enjoyable for all players regardle of their levels of expertise or playing styles. Ook met het tweede deel heeft men een niet zo goede timing toegepast. Het spel zal immers net na Neverwinter Nights in de winkels liggen en zal naast zich op de plank ook nog Warcraft 3 en Age of Wonders 2 zien liggen. Of dit spel dus op een goede verkoop kan rekenen is nog maar de vraag. Het heeft het vast wel verdient en het zal kwalitatief vast wel een goed spel zijn, maar Neverwinter Nights is waarschijnlijk op alle punten superieur. Maar we zullen het zien als dit spel volgens de planning eind juni uitkomt, waarschijnlijk iets later.
